I have over 20 years’ experience in managing residential blocks, working for London’s leading managing agents, helping them grow from small (but arguably the best) managing agents, into the biggest (and arguably still the best) managing agents in the country.
I have been responsible for a wide variety of properties ranging in size from just 6 flats to over 800 units and including some of the most prestigious buildings and estates in London. My managed developments have ranged from buildings with an average service charge of just a few hundred pounds a year, to properties where the owner of the largest flat is paying over £50,000 per annum.
My specialism has been managing property on behalf of Resident Management Companies and I was known for my solid, practical, level-headed advice. Regardless of the size of the development or the level of service charge, clients knew they were in safe hands.
A successful residential property manager does not necessarily need to be an expert in every field but must be highly knowledgeable in many areas, be financially astute, show common sense and, above all, be an excellent communicator.
I am a firm believer that good property management relies on there being a collaboration between the managing agent, Resident Management Company or Residents Association and the leaseholders.
I have lost count of the number of times I have taken on a new building where previous poor management had resulted in a “them and us” philosophy and it has been up to me to turn that mentality around.
I have a degree in Urban Estate Management, I am a Member of the Institute of Residential Property Management, and I am an Associate of the RICS. As well as being a managing agent, I have worked for a large central London residential landlord and also in the social housing sector.
As well as running this consultancy practice, my wife Rachel and I own a sales and lettings residential estate agency operating in High Wycombe and the surrounding villages.
